This sword is classified amongst collectors as the first official pattern of an English naval officer's sword of ca.1800.
It is best known as the 5-ball officer's spadroon for the 5-ball beaded decorations on its guard and its knucklebow. It has a ribbed ivory grip with its typical gilt brass "cigar band" in the middle with inset fouled anchor motif.
