The shashka was originally used by the mountain tribes of the Caucasus before it was taken over by the Cossacks for their cavalry in the 19th century.

The sabre's typical features are the missing hand guard, the slighly curved hilt with its eagle head-like knob and the fuller that runs almost along the full length of the only lightly curved blade.

Our reproduction is of 1st class quality with its blunt carbon steel blade and numerous marks on blade and hilt. The brass end of the hilt is ornamented and shows the Russian symbol hammer and sickle plus the letters "CCCP".

The sheath is made of leather-covered wood and features brass fittings to hold a bayonet.

Blade length. 81 cm / 81.8"
Max. blade width: 3 cm / 1.18"
