In the 12th century with the introduction of the pot helmet, the individual knight could no longer be recognized by his face, and another means of identification became necessary. Therefore their shields were painted in boldly contrasting colours and because armorial bearings were designed for battle, fierce animals were displayed as well.
We are offering an authentic copy of a crusader's shield in yellow colour (sorry, no others available yet) showing the crusader's cross.Shield dimensions:
117 cms.(46") high x 72 cms.(28") wide around the curve
weight : 3.5 kgs.(7.7 lbs.)
These shields are made from strong 1/2" plywood lined with linen.3 strong leather straps are fitted on the back as to be seen on our right photo.
